Ramon Calderon: 'Jose Mourinho contacted over Real Madrid return'

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon says that Jose Mourinho has been approached over a return to the Bernabeu.

Former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has claimed that Jose Mourinho has already been approached over a return to the Bernabeu.

Santiago Solari is currently in charge of first-team affairs at Madrid, but the Spaniard is widely expected to lose his job following Tuesday's shock Champions League elimination to Ajax.

Los Blancos entered the clash with Ajax off the back of successive home defeats to Barcelona, meanwhile, which ended their Copa del Rey hopes and left them 12 points off the top of La Liga.

Mourinho recently suggested that he would be open to a Madrid return and according to Calderon, the Portuguese has "been called" over the position.

"I have no doubt Mourinho is the first option for the president. He's been called in the last weeks," Calderon told Sky Sports News.

"It was when Zinedine Zidane left, Mourinho was with Manchester United and he said it was not the right moment to come back, but maybe now he's free. I think there will be many chances he will be on that bench next season."

Mourinho, who was sacked by Manchester United in December, previously managed Madrid between 2010 and 2013, winning one La Liga title and one Copa del Rey during his time at the club.
