Barcelona team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Rayo Vallecano

Sports Mole rounds up all of Barcelona's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Wednesday's La Liga clash with Rayo Vallecano.

Barcelona will seek an immediate return to winning ways in La Liga when they travel to Rayo Vallecano for Wednesday's battle.

Ronald Koeman's side fell to a 2-1 defeat against Real Madrid in El Clasico at the weekend, with Sergio Aguero's consolation coming after David Alaba and Lucas Vazquez had won the day for Los Blancos.

La Blaugrana have now slipped to ninth in the table after nine matches of the 2021-22 season, one point and two places below their high-flying midweek opponents.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Barcelona's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the clash.

Ousmane Dembele

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: October 27 (vs. Vallecano)

Ousmane Dembele's serious knee problem kept him out of the Clasico defeat to Real Madrid, but after flying to Finland to have the injury assessed by the surgeon who operated on him over the summer, he is thought to have a chance of making the cut here.

Martin Braithwaite

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Martin Braithwaite remains out of contention with his own serious knee injury and is facing at least another couple of months on the sidelines.

Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: Unknown

Teenage starlet Pedri continues to battle his way back from a thigh problem, and while he is expected to return relatively soon, it is unlikely to be on Wednesday.

Ronald Araujo

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: October 27 (vs. Vallecano)

Ronald Araujo injured his hamstring during the most recent international break, and the Uruguayan defender is only thought to have an extremely slim chance of making the squad on Wednesday.

Ansu Fati

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Knock
Possible return date: October 27 (vs. Vallecano)

Hearts were in mouths when Ansu Fati took a blow to the knee and had to be replaced in El Clasico, but Koeman played down any injury concerns after the game, and the 18-year-old should be fine to go again here.

Frenkie de Jong

Frenkie de Jong had to be replaced after 77 minutes of El Clasico, and it was reported after the game that the Dutchman has been playing through some hamstring discomfort in recent weeks, but he now may be forced to take a break.
