Christoph Metzelder: 'Bayern Munich lacking a Cristiano Ronaldo'

Former Germany centre-back Christoph Metzelder places Real Madrid as the favourites to retain the Champions League this season, ahead of Bayern Munich.

Former Germany centre-back Christoph Metzelder believes that Real Madrid are the favourites to retain the Champions League this season.

Los Blancos, alongside Bayern Munich, are seen as the favourites in Europe, but Metzelder believes that Bayern's lack of 'a Cristiano Ronaldo' places the German side at a disadvantage.

"Bayern just don't have a player like Ronaldo," Metzelder told Kicker.

Real Madrid and Bayern met in the semi-finals of the competition last season, with the Spanish side emerging 5-0 winners over the two legs.

Ronaldo netted 17 Champions League goals last season as the Spanish outfit won their 10th European Cup.
