Strathclyde Police have revealed that they are investigating the alleged racial abuse of two Rangers players on Twitter.
Kyle Bartley and Maurice Edu were reportedly sent messages on the social networking site, leading to complaints.
The Rangers duo are the latest in a growing line of players to be subject to racial abuse. Everton striker Louis Saha was verbally attacked recently, while a man has been arrested in connection with a similar incident involving Stan Collymore.
"Disappointing that in 2012 things like this are still happening. Hopefully the police will take action. Thank you all for the support," tweeted Bartley on the matter.
Rangers have been quick to back their players, telling stv: "These comments are disgraceful and we have notified the police who are now investigating the matter.
"The club will assist with all enquiries."
Rangers are currently second in the SPL, two points behind rivals Celtic.
