Queens Park Rangers were one of the favourites for relegation back to the Championship at the start of the season.

The bookmakers are very rarely wrong, but they were on this occasion as the R's stayed up by their skin of their teeth on what proved to be a dramatic final day of the season.

Here, Sports Mole recaps a dramatic ten months both on and off the field at Loftus Road.

August

If QPR were under any illusions as to how difficult the task of surviving in the Premier League would be, they were left in no doubt following their 4-0 defeat at home to Bolton Wanderers on the opening day.

They recovered momentarily with a 1-0 win at Everton thanks to Tommy Smith, before they slumped to a 2-0 loss at Wigan Athletic next time out.

September

September proved to be a more profitable month for Neil Warnock's side, who claimed draws from home matches against Newcastle United and Aston Villa.

The icing on the cake arrived during a trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers, where Joey Barton was among the goalscorers as the R's won 3-0.

October

In truth, October could not have started much worse for Rangers when they were hit for six by London rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage.

A 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers stopped the rot, before a 1-0 victory over nine-man Chelsea almost lifted the roof off of Loftus Road.

The month would end poorly though thanks to a 3-1 loss away at Tottenham Hotspur.

November

Just three matches in November for the R's, who lost two and won the other.

An impressive 3-2 victory away at Stoke City was accompanied by defeats to title-chasers Manchester City and fellow promotion outfit Norwich City.

December

December passed by without a victory as QPR began to be considered real contenders for relegation.

Defeats to Liverpool, Man United, Sunderland and Arsenal were only partly erased by 1-1 draws with Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion.

Reports were now suggesting that Warnock was running out of time to save his job.

January

Warnock was eventually sacked in January following an FA Cup draw with MK Dons of League One.

He was replaced by Mark Hughes, who instantly guided his new side to a 3-1 win over Wigan.

However, the Welshman was unable to prevent his team from slipping out of the FA Cup at the hands of Chelsea in round four.

February

The Hughes factor struggled to rub off during February as QPR slumped to defeats against Wolves, Blackburn and Fulham - all teams that were in and around the bottom half.

In fact, the R's only claimed one point across the whole month thanks to a 2-2 draw at Villa, which included a goal from debutant Djibril Cisse.

March

Wins over Arsenal and Liverpool at Loftus Road lightened up an otherwise gloomy March for QPR.

Sunderland and Bolton took maximum points from encounters with the R's, while Everton claimed a 1-1 draw in West London.

April

The month of April started and ended badly with defeats to Man United and Chelsea - the latter of which was a heavy 6-1 loss.

However, sandwiched between those losses were crucial victories over Swansea and Spurs to keep the R's in contention for Premier League safety heading into the final month of the season.

May

There will have been few more important goals in the club's history than the one that Cisse scored in the last minute to give QPR all three points against Stoke.

That left Hughes's side with a two-point cushion over Bolton in 18th, with a daunting trip to Man City between QPR and Premier League survival.

A incident-packed game at the Etihad saw City eventually win 3-2 with two goals in stoppage time. It handed City the Premier League title, but also kept Rangers in the Premier League.
