Kylian Mbappe seemingly emerges as a doubt for Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League fixture with Newcastle United after limping off against Marseille on Sunday.

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe has seemingly emerged as a doubt for the Champions League fixture at Newcastle United next month.

At one stage in the summer, it appeared likely that the France international would cut ties with the Ligue 1 champions after refusing to pen a new contract.

However, despite the prospect of the 2018 World Cup winner departing on a free transfer, he has been reintegrated back into the first-team fold in recent weeks.

A total of seven goals have been scored in just 341 minutes of Ligue 1 football, as well as one being netted during the continental encounter with Borussia Dortmund last week.

Nevertheless, the 24-year-old's participation in the next of PSG's European contests is uncertain courtesy of an injury picked up against Marseille on Sunday night.

PSG were 1-0 up when, shortly after the half-hour mark, Mbappe sustained an ankle knock in a challenge with Marseille's Leonardo Balerdi.

Mbappe was subsequently withdrawn having been unable to continue and he was subsequently seen receiving further treatment in the dugout.

The French giants were still able to prevail by a 4-0 scoreline in Le Classique, Mbappe's replacement Goncalo Ramos netting twice as Luis Enrique's team recorded a thumping win at Parc des Princes.

That said, there will be concern over Mbappe with PSG aware that they need to accumulate every point possible to progress in what is regarded as the toughest group in this season's Champions League.

While PSG sit top courtesy of their 2-0 triumph over Dortmund, three of their remaining five fixtures are away from home, starting with the trip to St James' Park on October 4.

Newcastle held AC Milan to a goalless draw at San Siro on matchday one and followed that result with the 8-0 demolition of Sheffield United on Sunday.

PSG play just once before they travel to England - facing Clermont Foot away on September 30 - but Newcastle are currently embroiled in a hectic schedule.

Eddie Howe's side have two matches before welcoming PSG to the North East, hosting Manchester City in the EFL Cup on Wednesday before providing Burnley with the same duties three days later.
