Paris Saint-Germain ease into Champions League last eight

PSG ease into the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a 2-1 win on the night and a 6-1 win on aggregate against Bayer Leverkusen.

Paris Saint-Germain have eased into the quarter-finals of the Champions League courtesy of a 6-1 aggregate win over Bayer Leverkusen.

The visitors made a bright start to the match, testing Salvatore Sirigu with an early shot from Emre Can before Sidney Sam broke the deadlock in just the sixth minute, nodding in Giulio Donati's cross.

They were ahead for just seven minutes, as PSG levelled the scores through Marquinhos's header, although Leverkusen keeper Bernd Leno could have done better with the effort.

The hosts almost took the lead in the 18th minute when Zlatan Ibrahimovic produced a delicate chipped finish over Leno, only for his effort to come back off the crossbar.

The Germans' slim hopes of launching a remarkable comeback were given a boost just before the half-hour mark when they were awarded a penalty, but Simon Rolfes squandered the opportunity with a weak spot kick that Sirigu comfortably saved.

PSG almost moved in front on the night with just seven minutes to go until half time when Edison Cavani latched on to Ibrahimovic's pass, but his finish was disappointing as Leno made the save.

They did take the lead within 10 minutes of the restart, however, as Lucas Digne beat Can before pulling the ball back to Ezequiel Lavezzi, who made no mistake with his finish.

The visitors almost found an equaliser just two minutes later when Donati fired an effort towards the bottom corner, but Sirigu made a fine stop to deny the Italian.

Things went from bad to worse for Leverkusen in the 68th minute when they were reduced to 10 men courtesy of a second yellow card for Can, who received the caution for simulation.

PSG then saw out the victory to complete a comprehensive passage into the last eight of the Champions League.
