Preview: Peterborough United vs. Blackpool - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Peterborough United and Blackpool, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Two sides level on 15 points will face off when Peterborough United play host to Blackpool in Tuesday's League One encounter.

Posh are looking to bounce back from an away defeat against Wycombe Wanderers, while the Tangerines are looking for a response after losing their last two matches.

Peterborough have struggled for consistency in their third consecutive League One season, having won four, drawn three and lost five of their 12 league matches.

Earlier this month, Peterborough recorded consecutive home wins over Stevenage in the league and EFL Trophy to end a three-game winless run.

Posh then showed great character to come from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 in their most recent home outing against Rotherham United.

Unfortunately for Peterborough, they were unable to make it four games without a win as they gave up a narrow lead to lose 3-1 in Saturday's meeting with Wycombe at Adams Park, where Richard Kone netted a nine-minute hat-trick to condemn the Posh to a third consecutive away defeat.

The 15th-placed side have now conceded more goals than any other side in the league (24), but they are at least the division's joint-highest scorers with 20 goals, and they will be keen to showcase that firepower on Tuesday as they look to extend their unbeaten home run to five league matches.

Blackpool will head into Tuesday's fixture in 14th position after winning four, drawing three and losing four of their 11 league matches.

The Tangerines had put together a seven-game unbeaten league run before they fell to a 2-0 defeat in their away meeting with Mansfield Town earlier this month.

Blackpool boss Steve Bruce was unable to take charge of Saturday's home clash against Barnsley due to a family bereavement, leaving his assistant Steve Agnew to oversee first-team affairs.

The Tangerines looked set to play out a draw when Oliver Casey netted a second-half equaliser, but Barnsley defender Marc Roberts ultimately snatched all three points with a stoppage-time winner to end Blackpool's four-game unbeaten home league run.

With Blackpool looking for a response on Tuesday, they can take confidence from the fact that they have already recorded an away win over Peterborough in 2024 after they fought back from a goal down to clinch a narrow 2-1 victory in March.

Team News

Peterborough are expected to be without Hector Kyprianou, Mahamadou Susoho, Chris Conn-Clarke and Jadel Katongo.

Emmanuel Fernandez will serve a one-match suspension after being sent off for two bookable offences in the defeat to Wycombe.

George Nevett is likely to replace Fernandez in defence, while Ryan De Havilland is likely to feature in midfield after featuring as a half-time substitute on Saturday.

As for the visitors, they are expected to be without the injured trio of Elkan Baggott, Ollie Norburn and Andy Lyons.

James Husband and CJ Hamilton are also unavailable for selection after they missed Saturday's defeat to Barnsley due to injury.

Midfielder Josh Onomah could be given more minutes off the bench after coming off the bench to make his Blackpool debut at the weekend.

Peterborough United possible starting lineup:
Steer; Dornelly, Nevett, Wallin, Sparkes; De Havilland, Collins; Poku, Randall, Mothersille; Jones

Blackpool possible starting lineup:
Tyrer; Lawrence-Gabriel, Offiah, Casey, Coulson; Apter, Evans, Morgan, Embleton; Joseph, Ballard

We say: Peterborough United 2-1 Blackpool

The last nine competitive meetings between the two sides have produced a winner, and we think that Peterborough could continue that trend by making full use of home advantage to condemn Blackpool to a third consecutive defeat.
