Chris Wilder expects Cambridge United response

Northampton Town boss Chris Wilder describes Cambridge United as "dangerous opponents", despite the U's avoiding defeat just once in their last nine games.

Northampton Town manager Chris Wilder has admitted that he is wary of taking on an under-par Cambridge United side this weekend.

The U's have three league wins to their name so far this season and have avoided defeat just once in their last nine outings.

Northampton, on the other hand, have now gone six games without losing to close in on the League Two playoff zone.

Despite the contrasting form, Wilder insists that Cambridge remain "dangerous opponents" due to the quality of players available to opposite number Richard Money.

"People talk about managers, tactics and preparation, but I think if you have a good group of players that have a go for you, and you have some quality in there, it's a good sign for them to go well," the Northampton Chronicle quotes the 48-year-old as saying.

"They have some good players, so they might be a touch disappointed with their results so far. But in this league they are all dangerous opponents, and by all accounts in the first half against Portsmouth last weekend when it was 11 versus 11, it was very even.

"They were a team that was tipped in the betting, and with the players they brought into the club in the summer, I would imagine if you spoke to most of the league two managers they would have thought they were going to go very well this year. Cambridge will be looking to get a result to give them a little bit of momentum."

Town were issued with a winding-up petition on Thursday afternoon over outstanding payments.
