Richard Money hints at no Mark Roberts appeal

Richard Money concedes that Cambridge United are unlikely to launch an appeal against Mark Roberts's red card against Portsmouth.

Cambridge United manager Richard Money has suggested that the club will not appeal the red card that captain Mark Roberts received against Portsmouth at the weekend.

The centre-back was dismissed at half time following a clash with Pompey goalkeeper Aaron McCarey as the two teams headed for the dressing rooms.

Roberts is now due to serve a three-match suspension, with Money having hinted that a successful appeal would be unlikely.

"We have to give serious consideration as to whether we appeal it," the boss told the Cambridge Evening News.

"But I think we need to think a little bit more about what the consequences might be if they deemed it shouldn't have been contested because the consequence of that is more games.

"My experience of that is they back each other, because they don't want to make anyone appear silly. They back each other, so we'll have to look at it again."

Cambridge went on to lose the encounter at the Abbey Stadium 3-1.
