FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke to leave role next year

FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke announces that he will leave his position when a new president is elected in February 2016.

FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke has claimed that he will leave his position when a new president is elected next year.

Current president Sepp Blatter is expected to step down in February due to the corruption scandal that has engulfed the organisation.

FIFA officials are currently in Russia ahead of Saturday's 2018 World Cup qualifying draw.

Valcke, 54, told reporters that he would not be continuing as general secretary as of February, but he refused to take responsibility for the corruption allegations.

The Frenchman, who has been in the role since 2007, recently denied any wrongdoing amid accusations that he had authorised a £6.5m bid to award South Africa the 2010 World Cup.
