FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke has announced that the bidding process for the 2026 World Cup has been suspended.
The bidding had been due to begin shortly, with a vote expected to take place at the FIFA congress in Kuala Lumpur in May 2017.
The suspension comes amid corruption allegations surrounding the 2018 and 2022 tournaments, which are due to be held in Russia and Qatar respectively.
The FBI has said that it will scrutinise both the Russian and Qatari bids.
The scandal has led to the resignation of FIFA president Sepp Blatter after 17 years in the post.
