Football Association chairman David Bernstein insists that the governing body are working hard to increase participation and popularity in women's football.

Football Association chairman David Bernstein has revealed that the governing body will outline a five-year plan to help increase interest in women's football.

The women's game is currently listed as the fourth most popular participation sport behind men's football, rugby and cricket.

"Women's football is the area with the most potential for growth in the nation's favourite game," said Bernstein.

"We are determined to lead that development at every level and have created a robust plan for doing so using all our resources and knowledge."

The plan states that 253,600 females should be playing football every month by 2018.
