Francois Carrard: 'Reform must come from within FIFA'

The chairman of FIFA's reform committee, Francois Carrard, insists that reform must come from within football's governing body.

Francois Carrard has insisted that FIFA must reform itself from within after the organisation's executive committee approved a series of proposals from the reform committee.

The planned changes include limiting the FIFA president to three four-year terms, further promotion of women's football and greater transparency.

The chairman of the committee said at a press conference: "We are far from finished. This is only the beginning of a new era, a new process, but it's a very important step today.

"It was impressive this morning to see all members without exception supporting and showing their determination to carry out this reform process.

"This unanimous consensus is not such a simple fact because when this committee was appointed, it was challenged and criticised as not independent. But I accepted the challenge because reform must be made from within and not just from without."

FIFA has been facing an ongoing corruption scandal in recent months, resulting in further arrests earlier today.
