Report: Newcastle United back in for midfielder Lewis Holtby

Hamburger SV midfielder Lewis Holtby reportedly remains a transfer target for Newcastle United, who could make a fresh approach when the window reopens in January.

Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez is weighing up a fresh January move for Hamburger SV midfielder Lewis Holtby, according to a report.

The Magpies, along with Premier League rivals Bournemouth, are understood to have missed out on the 27-year-old with their initial approach in the summer.

With eight months left to run on his current deal, however, HITC suggests that Benitez could possibly reopen negotiations in the New Year.

Holtby has been used seven times by Hamburg in the Bundesliga this term, starting four of those matches, but was left out of the squad for last weekend's 3-1 loss to Stuttgart.

The German side are said to be open to a deal, with the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder expected to attract a transfer fee of less than £5m.
