Newcastle United drop their interest in free agent Andy Carroll, according to a report.

Newcastle United have reportedly decided against a move for free agent Andy Carroll.

The 30-year-old is available on a free transfer this summer having left West Ham United at the end of June.

The nine-time England international has been linked with a return to the Magpies, where he came through the youth system before going on to score 33 times in 91 games for the first team.

However, according to The Mirror, Newcastle boss Steve Bruce has decided against making a move for the experienced striker after bringing both Joelinton and Allan Saint-Maximin to St James' Park.

The report claims that the club will not be signing any more forwards this summer, with Bruce also intending to use Dwight Gayle on a regular basis in the coming season.

The Magpies, who have won their last two friendlies against Hibernian and Saint-Etienne, will host Arsenal in their Premier League opener next Sunday.
