Newcastle United will reportedly renew their interest in Sevilla defender Diego Carlos when the transfer window reopens this summer.

Newcastle United will reportedly revive their pursuit of Sevilla defender Diego Carlos when the transfer window reopens this summer.

The Magpies were heavily linked with a move for Carlos in January as Eddie Howe looked to bolster his backline ahead of a relegation battle.

However, the two clubs were unable to reach an agreement for a transfer fee, with Newcastle rumoured to have had a £30m approach turned down.

The Daily Star reports that Newcastle could renew their interest in the 28-year-old this summer, though, providing they stay in the Premier League this season.

Howe has overseen a major upturn in the team's form since the turn of the year, with Newcastle picking up 11 of the last 15 points on offer.

The Magpies have climbed out of the relegation zone as a result of that form, and now sit two points clear of relegation.

Howe remains keen to improve his centre-back options during the summer, though, having only brought in Dan Burn in that area of the field in January.
