Newcastle United release Gabriel Obertan, Sylvain Marveaux

Newcastle United announce that wingers Gabriel Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux have left the club.

Newcastle United have announced that wingers Gabriel Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux have left the club by mutual consent.

The French pair were both due to be out of contract this summer and Newcastle said in a statement that an agreement had been reached before the end of the season to help them find new clubs sooner.

Both players have been at the club for five years, but neither has been a regular part of the Magpies' first-team picture this season.

Former Manchester United wideman Obertan leaves having scored three goals in 77 appearances, while Marveaux managed only 57 appearances in his five years on Tyneside.
