Steve McClaren has revealed that Newcastle United are no closer to securing a deal for a new striker.
After narrowly avoiding relegation from the Premier League prior to McClaren's arrival, the signing of a new forward is a priority for the club and the Magpies have been linked with Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin and Anderlecht's Aleksandar Mitrovic.
However, when asked by reporters whether any progress had been with moves for either player during the pre-season tour of America, McClaren responded: "No. The only one was [Georgino] Wijnaldum at the weekend.
"There's no news of yet because of the time difference. We get up, train, have lunch then have meetings.
"I think there are many players I admire and would like to come to Newcastle. As always when a player comes in and gets through the door, we'll talk about them a lot more."
Reports have suggested that Newcastle are also interested in Sampdoria forward Stefano Okaka.
