Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini has reportedly been persuaded to stay with the club until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old defender recently told United officials that he is ready to move back to his native Argentina for personal reasons.

However, Coloccini could now remain with Newcastle until the summer after being told that it would cost him around £7m to buy out his contract, according to The Mirror.

Coloccini, who is believed to be earning £60,000 per week in wages, moved to St James' Park from Deportivo La Coruna in 2008 for £10m.
