Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini insists that he is happy to stay at the club until at least the end of the season.

Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini has insisted that he is happy to stay at the club for the immediate future.

The defender cited "personal reasons" for wanting a return to his native Argentina during the January transfer window.

However, the 31-year-old was eventually convinced to remain at St James' Park by the Newcastle hierarchy.

"I am happy to play now," The Mirror quotes Coloccini as saying. "When the situation was finished in January I said to the club that we can turn the page. We have moved on.

"Next season, I don't know. I just want to be focused on the Premier League and the Europa League this season."

Coloccini joined Newcastle from Deportivo La Coruna in 2008 for around £10m.
