Rafael Benitez: 'January could be busy month'

Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez hints that January will be a busy month for the Magpies, who will be looking to bring in new players.

Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has hinted that January will be a busy month for the Magpies.

A disappointing summer transfer window saw Newcastle fail to land a number of their targets, but a positive start to the 2017-18 Premier League campaign has left the Magpies in ninth position in the table.

Six new players arrived at the newly-promoted club during the summer, and Benitez has revealed that his club are already looking ahead to the start of the winter window with a view to bringing in fresh blood.

"Are we working for the January transfer window? Yes, we are already working on that. Like the majority of the teams, we are monitoring players and that is the main thing," Benitez told reporters.

"There will be a time, maybe next month, maybe next week, maybe in two months, when we will have another conversation and we will talk about that."

Newcastle will continue their Premier League season at home to Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.
