Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic joins Newcastle United

Newcastle United secure the services of young Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic on a five-year contract.

Newcastle United have completed the signing of Aleksandar Mitrovic from Anderlecht.

Over the weekend, the 20-year-old confirmed on his official Facebook page that he had decided to leave his Belgian employers for a team that played in "black and white".

At the time the club in question was widely reported to have been Newcastle and now the Magpies have confirmed his arrival on Tyneside on a five-year deal.

"I am so happy to have signed for Newcastle. I visited the stadium and it is amazing. I have played in a lot of impressive stadiums in my career but St James' Park is so big, I can't wait to play my first game here," he told the club's official website.

"I know how passionate the fans are. This is a club with a very big history and the fans are a big part of that. There will be pressure here, for sure, but I like pressure.

"I also know about the famous players who have played for Newcastle United, like Alan Shearer, who is a hero of mine. I hope I can play like him for this club. It will be an honour."

No fee has been specified, but Newcastle have revealed that the financial outlay has made the Serbian the "fourth biggest transfer in the club's history".

In total, Mitrovic scored 44 goals in 90 outings for Anderlecht following his arrival two years ago from Partizan.
