Newcastle United midfielder Siem de Jong has suggested that his teammates are "ashamed" of their 5-1 thrashing by Crystal Palace at the weekend.
The Magpies had led at Selhurst Park thanks to a 10th-minute Papiss Cisse goal, before conceding Palace's opener just four minutes later, and De Jong admits that his teammates' heads dropped after James McArthur's strike.
"Everybody knows that we need to work hard to get out of this," De Jong told nufcTV. "We came in on Sunday to get a quick talk and recovery for the guys who didn't play, to do a good session, so everybody was ready to train today and focus on the next game.
"Of course everybody knows it should be better and we are all ashamed and really disappointed about the [Palace] result.
"Heads dropped after the equaliser, it's a difficult period and we need to stay in the game. We need to stay focused and not let these things happen again."
Newcastle - who are currently 19th in the Premier League - will take on Liverpool in their next fixture on Sunday afternoon.
