Shola Ameobi could make return against Tottenham Hotspur

Newcastle striker Shola Ameobi could be fit for his side's match against Spurs on Sunday.

Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi could make his return from injury against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The 29-year-old was sidelined for the Magpies' win against Wolverhampton Wanderers on October 1, and it was thought that he could be out for a number of weeks.

Despite those fears, Newcastle assistant boss John Carver revealed that Ameobi could feature at the weekend.

"Shola's had a good week with the fitness guys," Carver told The Chronicle "We could have thrown him back into training, but we thought it'd be better to give him a good base.

"He's had a solid week. He'll be back with the group on Monday for the build-up to Spurs."

United are currently fourth in the Premier League table after their unbeaten start to the season.
