Striker Shola Ameobi signs a new two-year contract extension at Newcastle United.

Shola Ameobi has signed a new deal keeping him at Newcastle until 2014.

The news means that the 29-year-old Nigerian striker will have been with the club for at least 18 years, having moved to St. James' Park at the age of 13.

"All I've ever wanted is to play for Newcastle United and it is a really happy day for me," said Ameobi. "Newcastle is, and always will be, my club and I'm looking forward immensely to the next three years, beginning this Saturday with the new season opener against Arsenal.

"I would also like to thank the board and the manager for their continued support, which is very much appreciated."

Manager Alan Pardew described Ameobi, who scored nine goals last season, as a "great character to have around the place".
