Montpellier HSC's three-game winning run came to an abrupt end at Nice on Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 defeat.
Stephane Bahoken's first-half brace was enough to seal all three points for Claude Puel's men.
Montpellier had kept clean sheets in each of their previous three matches, but the French champions' defence was breached after just 12 minutes at Stade Municipal du Ray.
Eric Bautheac crossed for Bahoken, who finished neatly from close range.
Bahoken doubled his side's advantage on 24 minutes, as he calmly slotted home from 12 yards after Luigi Bruins had seen his effort rebound off the post.
Nice climb two places to fifth in the Ligue 1 table, while Montpellier stay seventh.
