Bolton Wanderers defender David Wheater would be open to a return to Middlesbrough, according to reports.
The 26-year-old missed the majority of last season with a serious knee injury, but returned to play the final four matches of the season.
While it is unclear whether Bolton would allow Wheater to leave the Reebok Stadium, according to the Northern Echo, Middlesbrough are keen on taking the central defender back to the North-East.
The former England Under-21 international has just 12 months remaining on his contract at Bolton.
