Middlesbrough promoted to Premier League

Middlesbrough are promoted to the Premier League courtesy of a 1-1 draw with Brighton.

Middlesbrough have returned to the Premier League courtesy of a 1-1 draw with promotion rivals Brighton & Hove Albion at the Riverside this afternoon.

Aitor Karanka's side - one of the founding members of the Premier League - will play in the top flight for the first time since 2009 following the result, which sees them finish second in the Championship table above the Seagulls on goal difference.

Brighton will now have to battle with Hull City, Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday in the playoffs for the final promotion spot.

Meanwhile Burnley, who sealed their own promotion last week, were confirmed as champions as they sealed a 3-0 win at Charlton Athletic.
