Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray confirms that in-form forward Scott McDonald could miss up to eight weeks after suffering knee ligament damage.

Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray has confirmed that forward Scott McDonald will be out for up to eight weeks after suffering knee ligament damage.

The Australian international opened the scoring in Boro's 2-2 draw at Leicester before being withdrawn in the second half.

His goal took his season tally to nine and his absence is sure to a be a blow to the North East club as they search for their first win in five.

"He will be out for six to eight weeks, four to six weeks, take your pick," Mowbray confirmed.

"He's desperately unhappy and it's another big loss for us."

Despite their recent winless spell, Boro are still well in contention for promotion come the end of the season, currently lying fifth in the Championship.
