Manchester United will continue to support Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and back the Red Devils manager in summer transfer windows, according to Ed Woodward.

Manchester United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has publicly vowed to support Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in future summer transfer windows.

The Red Devils hierarchy came under criticism after failing in their summer pursuit of Jadon Sancho, and United also failed to bring in a centre-back during the most recent window.

Despite landing Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani, United have made an inconsistent start to the 2020-21 campaign in the Premier League and Champions League, but Woodward has affirmed that the under-fire Solskjaer retains the club's support and will be backed in the transfer market.

Speaking at a fans' forum, Woodward said: "We recognise there's more hard work ahead to achieve the consistency needed to win trophies.

"But we see positive signs on the pitch and the training ground that reinforce our belief in the progress being made by Ole, his coaching team and the players.

"I said in April we remained committed to strengthening the squad, while being disciplined in our spending during the pandemic.

"I believe we've delivered on that, with the additions we made during the summer taking our total net spending to over €200m (£180m) since summer 2019 - more than any other major European club over that period.

"We will continue to support Ole with a planned, long-term approach to recruitment, focused on the summer windows."

The Red Devils currently lie ninth in the Premier League table and face a trip to an in-form West Ham United side on Saturday evening.
