Sunderland have reportedly expressed an interest in bringing free agent Michael Owen to Wearside.
The 32-year-old is without a club following his release from Manchester United and has insisted that he wants to stay in the Premier League.
Stoke City and, more recently, Liverpool have been linked with a move for the striker and now, according to Press Association Sport, Sunderland are also in the mix.
Owen has been tweeting regularly during recent weeks but has refused to disclose his possible destinations.
"Obviously can't tell you who I'm in talks with yet. I have an idea where I will go but you never know who else could enter the fray!" he wrote yesterday evening.
Martin O'Neill has already brought in Steven Fletcher and Louis Saha to bolster the Black Cats' frontline.
