Benfica striker Rodrigo has backed Manchester United target Ezequiel Garay, insisting that the defender has proved himself in Portugal.

The Argentine has reportedly been tracked by the Premier League champions for a number of months and is thought to be a top target for new manager David Moyes.

Rodrigo, who also spent time with Garay at Real Madrid, believes that the 26-year-old would be well suited to England and wishes him the best should he leave this summer.

"Everyone knows he is a good, smart player - he was at Real Madrid," the Spaniard told Fox Sports Asia.

"He may not have had much luck there but he has definitely proved himself in the last two years at Benfica.

"I do not know if he will stay because maybe he will go to England. I wish him the best as he is a very good person too."

Garay joined Benfica in 2011 after spending three years at the Bernabeu.
