Everton's Roberto Martinez rules out move for Manchester United's Jonny Evans

Everton manager Roberto Martinez rejects reports that the club are considering an £8m move for Manchester United defender Jonny Evans.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has rejected reports linking the club with a swoop for Manchester United defender Jonny Evans.

The Merseyside outfit have offloaded Sylvain Distin and Antolin Alcaraz this summer, indicating that a new defender is on the transfer wishlist.

Reports have claimed that Everton are on the verge of tabling an £8m bid for Evans, but Martinez rejected the rumours today in Singapore.

"No, there is no truth," Martinez told the Liverpool Echo. "I can tell you that there is nothing on that."

Evans has one year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford.
