Everton release Sylvain Distin, Antolin Alcaraz

Sylvain Distin and Antolin Alcaraz are on the look-out for new clubs next season after Everton announced that they have released the defensive duo.

Sylvain Distin and Antolin Alcaraz will be not be offered new contracts at Everton and will leave the club this month.

The centre-backs struggled for game time in the second half of last season as Roberto Martinez preferred the partnership of Phil Jagielka and John Stones.

Distin joined Everton from Portsmouth in 2009 and played over 150 times for the Toffees, while he was also named as Player of the Year in 2012.

Alcaraz signed on a free transfer from Wigan Athletic in 2013 but injuries disrupted his time at Goodison Park.

The club have offered a new contract to left-back Luke Garbutt, but Aaron Lennon has returned to Tottenham Hotspur following a loan spell.
