Wigan Athletic could be about to land Manchester United striker Mame Biram Diouf on loan until the end of the season.
The 24-year-old has been limited to only three appearances for the Premier League champions this season.
The Senegal international is hoping that a successful spell with the Latics will put him in manager Sir Alex Ferguson's thoughts for next season, similar to Danny Welbeck after his loan with Sunderland.
"Wigan is an option and a good one. I want to go and play week in, week out and try to impress Sir Alex," he told the Daily Mail. "If I can finish the season strongly I can challenge next season like Danny has done. Wigan could be key for me."
Diouf moved to Old Trafford from Norwegian club Molde in 2009.
