Everton are confident of signing United's Mame Biram Diouf

Everton are chasing Manchester United's out-of-favour striker Mame Biram Diouf.

Manchester United's out-of-favour striker Mame Biram Diouf is being strongly linked with a move to Everton in the January transfer window.

The Senegal international was signed from Norwegian side Molde in January 2010 and was then instantly loaned back for the rest of the season, before joining Blackburn on a season-long loan.

Since returning to Old Trafford, Diouf has been unable to force himself into the first-team setup and now it seems Everton are ready to make their move.

Everton reportedly sent scouts to watch the forward in action last week and assistant manager Steve Round watched Diouf score twice for the reserves against Liverpool, according to The People.

The club are hoping to secure the 24-year-old's signature for a nominal fee through David Moyes's good relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson.

Everton go up against Swansea at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
