Manchester United have reportedly emerged as the frontrunners to clinch Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric.
The Red Devils have been linked to the Croatian playmaker over the last few months alongside Premier League rivals Chelsea - who were close to signing the 26-year-old last summer - and North West outfit Manchester City.
While a number of clubs are thought to be interested in the midfielder, it is understood that Sir Alex Ferguson is the favourite to snatch his top transfer target, according to the Daily Star.
Reports have suggested that Modric has yet to sign a new deal with Spurs, despite a new contract being offered on the table.
It has also been reported that the North London club may be forced to relinquish their hold on the £40m-rated playmaker, if the club fail to secure Champions League football for next season.
