Manchester United are not pushing ahead with a potential deal for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves, according to a report.

The 24-year-old has been touted as a potential signing at Old Trafford in the past, as United look to strengthen their options in the centre of the pitch.

As well as putting in an impressive performance in Wolves' 1-0 victory at United at the start of January, the Portuguese international has been in strong form all season under Bruno Lage, as his side battle it out for the European places in the Premier League.

Now as previously reported by Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are deciding against a move for Neves at this time, with a £40m price tag being placed on his head.

Neves moved to the West Midlands side in the summer of 2017 for around £16m from Porto, and after helping them earn promotion from the Championship, he has gone on to make 128 Premier League appearances at Molineux.

Meanwhile, with Paul Pogba's future in doubt at Old Trafford, and Donny van de Beek surplus to requirements, United have been linked with the likes of Amadou Haidara from RB Leipzig, and Aurelien Tchouameni of Monaco, in their search for a central midfielder in the past.
