Defender Andreas Granqvist has reportedly emerged as a surprise potential target for Manchester United.
Manager Jose Mourinho was left frustrated during the summer transfer window, with the Portuguese unable to bring in any of his desired targets to improve the side's backline.
However, according to Fotboll Direkt, United are considering an approach for Granqvist once the winter window opens in January.
Granqvist recently skippered Sweden to the quarter-finals of the World Cup, but the centre-back is now 33 years of age and struggled to make an impact for Wigan Athletic during the 2007-08 campaign.
The veteran is currently at Helsingborg but it has been claimed that United - as well as Zenit St Petersburg and Lokomotiv Moscow - hold an interest in the player.
