Manchester United bid for Nick Powell

Manchester United reportedly make a bid for Crewe Alexandra forward Nick Powell.

Manchester United have reportedly made a bid to land Crewe Alexandra star Nick Powell.

The 18-year-old forward enhanced his growing reputation by scoring a stunning opening goal in the Railwaymen's 2-0 win over Cheltenham Town in Sunday's League Two playoff final.

Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson has had his scouts watch Powell on a number of occasions this season.

Ferguson reportedly wants to complete a deal for the player quickly, with Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Chelsea also believed to be interested in his signature.

United have made a £2m offer - rising to £5m based on appearances - for Powell, according to The Mirror.

The Old Trafford club are believed to be willing to loan Powell back to Crewe so that he can continue to play first-team football next season.
