Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson hopes that both Rio Ferdinand and Javier Hernandez will remain at the club for next season.

Ferdinand is out of contract in the summer, while the Mexican international has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford after seeing his first-team opportunities limited this campaign.

"There is no reason to think this is not the place for him (Hernandez)," Ferguson told reporters.

"We hope he feels as though he has made a contribution. He has scored 16 goals. When he came on the other night [at West Ham] his movement was terrific. He created a lot of openings for us."

He added: "I've spoken to Rio. We want him to stay and obviously I'm sure his representatives will be discussing things with David Gill. I wouldn't imagine that [moving abroad] would be the best thing for him."

United face Aston Villa later today knowing that a win will secure the Premier League title.
