Chelsea have moved ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala, according to a report.

The Blues have seized the opportunity to begin their pursuit of the Frenchman as new United boss David Moyes is on holiday.

Jose Mourinho wishes to bring Mangala to the club to add competition to his defence to put pressure on John Terry, Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic, reports The People.

Porto want a reported £30m for Mangala, although Chelsea are only willing to pay £23m for his services this summer.
