Team News: Wayne Rooney captains Manchester United against Liverpool

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal names Wayne Rooney as his captain for the International Champions Cup final against old rivals Liverpool in Miami.

Louis van Gaal has named Wayne Rooney as Manchester United skipper for the International Champions Cup final against Liverpool in Miami this evening.

The England international has been tipped to inherit the Old Trafford captaincy full time following the departure of Nemanja Vidic and is seemingly in Van Gaal's thoughts in regards to the leadership role.

With Danny Welbeck carrying a knock, Javier Hernandez will partner Rooney up front, while Ander Herrera is selected as part of United's five-man midfield as they persist with Van Gaal's 3-5-2 formation.

Rickie Lambert is the only one of Liverpool's six summer signings to be included in their starting XI for the encounter at the Sun Life Stadium, which Daniel Sturridge misses after flying home injured.

Man United: De Gea; Evans, Smalling, Jones; Valencia, Herrera, Fletcher, Young; Mata; Rooney, Hernandez

Liverpool Mignolet; Kelly, Skrtel, Sakho, Johnson; Gerrard, Allen, Henderson; Coutinho, Lambert, Sterling
