Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says that he "enjoyed" the tribute paid to him by Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho before Sunday's meeting with Manchester United.

Arsene Wenger has thanked Manchester United for their "classy" pre-match gesture of honouring his managerial spell at Arsenal.

The Frenchman was given a warm embrace by former foes Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho on the touchline ahead of his final match in charge of the Gunners at Old Trafford.

Wenger was handed a piece of silverware by Ferguson as a tribute for his 22 years in English football, while at the same time being applauded by United supporters.

Asked about his reception after the match, the 68-year-old told Sky Sports News: "It was very nice and classy. I enjoyed it.

"I have come here for a long long time. Next year, someone else will be in the dugout and it will be a hostile environment again!"

The match finished 2-1 at the Theatre of Dreams thanks to a late Marouane Fellaini header.
