David Moyes has revealed that he would have taken a different approach at Manchester United had he known his job would be under immediate threat.
The Scot was sacked just nine months after replacing Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford as his side struggled in the Premier League.
However, Moyes feels that he would have altered his management plans to help his side in the short term, if he had been given an indication that his future was under immediate scrutiny.
He told The People: "I still believe I was the right person for the job but if you don't get the time it's very difficult to work.
"Taking over from Sir Alex was never going to be easy. Looking back I think everyone is aware that it was a rebuilding job, a job that was going to take time. It could not be done immediately, and I signed a six-year contract, not a nine-month contract.
"If I'd signed a nine-month contract then I might have done things slightly differently. But I'd signed a six-year deal which meant we'd take things easy and not change things that Sir Alex had done for so many years."
Moyes became manager of Real Sociedad in November 2014 and has enjoyed a successful start to his reign at the Spanish club.
