Jose Mourinho: 'I never considered Manchester United job'

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho insists that he never considered putting himself into contention to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes that he was never considered as a potential replacement for Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

Ferguson was replaced by David Moyes, who has endured a disappointing first campaign at Old Trafford, and Mourinho has revealed that he informed the former United boss of his intentions before the Scot announced his plans to retire.

The 51-year-old told The Sun: "I don't know if Sir Alex thought of me for United or not.

"The point is he clearly knew that I wanted to go to Chelsea. I spoke with him after we (Real Madrid) knocked United out of the Champions League last season and I told him what I wanted to do - that Chelsea is what I wanted, that was the direction I wanted to go.

"As for David, he went to a new club - a club with a new reality for him - and he is adapting. Next season will be better and attention, attention! He can still win the Champions League this season."

Mourinho has guided the Blues to the top of the Premier League table, while also taking the Stamford Bridge outfit to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
