Manchester United chief operating officer Collette Roche provides an update on the future of the club's forward Mason Greenwood.

Manchester United chief operating officer Collette Roche has provided an update on the future of Mason Greenwood, with the club still yet to make an announcement on the forward.

The 20-time English champions had allegedly been set to make a final decision on Greenwood before their 2023-24 Premier League opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.

However, it was then reported that there had been a delay, with the club keen to consult with their women's team before making any final call, with some currently playing for England at the Women's World Cup.

Greenwood has recently been pictured and videoed undergoing training sessions, with Man United said to be receiving data on his fitness.

However, it is still unclear whether the forward, who has not featured for the Red Devils since January 2022, will have the chance to continue his career at Old Trafford.

Roche has revealed that the club have undertaken "a really detailed and thorough internal investigation" into the events that led to Greenwood's arrest last year.

"We've done a really detailed and thorough internal investigation, and we've asked as many people as we can around what happened and try to understand it beyond the original investigation done by the police," Roche told The Athletic.

"You'd expect us to engage with people who were relevant in terms of stakeholder groups. And now, we just need to make the decision. That decision is firmly a decision that's on us."

At this stage, it is unclear when a final decision will arrive, although there have been strong suggestions that Man United are against selling him, which could lead to a loan move.

Greenwood has represented his current side on 129 occasions in all competitions, finding the back of the net 35 times, in addition to contributing 12 assists.

Last January, the England international was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

The forward was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but the charges have now all been dropped.

Juventus, AC Milan, Roma and Atalanta BC are among the Italian clubs believed to have expressed an interest in taking the Englishman on loan for the season.
