Denis Irwin impressed by Patrice Evra's response

Denis Irwin believes that Patrice Evra deserves credit for responding to rumours about his future in the summer transfer window.

Former Manchester United defender Denis Irwin believes that Patrice Evra has responded well to transfer speculation.

The Frenchman was in danger of fighting for his place at full-back following manager David Moyes's failed attempt to sign Leighton Baines from Everton in the summer.

However, Irwin believes that Evra deserves credit for putting in some impressive performances so far this season.

"You have to get on with it and deal with it," Irwin told talkSPORT. "Leighton Baines was linked with the club, along with Luke Shaw at Southampton, who looks a really good player.

"When Moyes came in last summer there were always going to be assumptions becasuse he knows Baines' game. Evra has responded very well though and he's been one of Manchester United's better players this year."

The 32-year-old has been at Old Trafford since 2006.
