Jamie Carragher: 'Manchester United will not win Premier League, Champions League'

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says that Manchester United's squad is not strong enough to win either the Premier League or the Champions League this season.

Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher has stated that Manchester United's summer signings will not bring either the Premier League title or the Champions League trophy to Old Trafford.

United made six summer additions, the most recent being the £36m capture of striker Anthony Martial from Monaco.

"I think Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin will add to what United were perhaps lacking in central midfield, but in the striking department you are still not quite sure yet," Carragher told Sky Sports News.

"I think they are good signings but I don't think they are the players who will take the team where Louis van Gaal eventually wants to take them.

"Considering the money spent there are still areas that don't look strong enough to win the Premier League or Champions League, which is what Van Gaal is ultimately aiming for."

The Red Devils take on Southampton at St Mary's on Sunday.
